Acclimation Successful

The Bull Dance

We have heifers in Cindy's field. We seperate them from the herd so that our bull will not get them pregnant while they are still young. Well, they aren't young any more. And there are bulls all around. As I was coming home this evening, I saw a dustball out of the corner of my eye so I slowed down and our neighbor, Higgins, and his bull had a visitor. And they were going at it! I got out of my truck and just watched. They butted heads and then pushed. They pushed and one bull wouild give a little, then the other. It was quite a nice dance. I am sure that which ever bull "wins", he will soon be helping us out by "taking care of business" across the fence. I wonder if the Heifers watch and cheer on either one of the bulls? You know, the Happy Cow thing! HA!

Summer Fun

So, everyone asks me "Where are you going THIS summer?" Because after last summer's trip to Jakarta, Indonesia, well, how can I top that!? And I have to reply, well, no where, really. They look at me in disbelief. Kevin's cousin Tammy and I have the nick name"Grasshopper" and it has nothing to do with "Wax-on. Wax-off". We like to GO! We really don't care where we go just as long as our wheels are moving, we are happy. This summer is a little differentfor me than the others before. This summer, Kevin is gone eavery week, leaving me and his dad behind to "take care of things." the "things" that Kevin refers to is Hay. Acres and acres of hay. Delmus cuts the hay, I rake the hay, Delmus Bales the hay, and I bring the Hay bales to the barn. So far, we have about 100 round bales of hay. And we've only just begun... We still have lots of more acres and acres and acres to go. Did I mention that we need everyones workglove size for square baling??? And it is realy not so bad...I mean just today I got smacked in the face by not 1, not even 2, but by THREE tree branches as I raked the hay from beneath their limbs. Delmus and Kevin chopped up 3 Turkey nests (Kevin was none too happy about that!) Luckily, one of the nests with eggs had already hatched out. I got hay rash all over my arms and face, AND I have no time to laze around the swimming pool. So when you all get here and notice my nice tanned arms, don't get too jealous because it is a farmer's tan and stops at he neck line. Only 50 more acres to go and we are ready to start round 2!!

Farewell

Yesterday, I got out of bed, opened my blinds and stepped outside for a breath of fresh air and some sunshine. As I opened the door, I heard a faint "meow"from underneath my chair. Soon, I found a very tattered and beaten Cheetah. Once again, he had gotten into a fight with, well, not sure. I called Delmus and we cleaned his wounds the best we could and gave a hefty shot of antibiotics. We put Cheetah in the outside basement and got him some water. He was safe, cool, and at ease. All the cats knew something was going on because they all ceased their running about. Fluffy went to the basement door that was adjacent to Cheetah's room and just sat, watching the door. We went about our day. I returned home that evening and checked on Cheetah. I am glad that I could give him some home comforts. I believe he made it home because he knew I would care for him. We buried him in the garden next to Holly and Lady, Delmus' dogs. He will be missed but I chose to remember him as the "relaxin" cat above.

Mid-Morning Snack

Delmus and I were returning from the hay field this morning and as we were coming down his drive on the 4 wheeler we spied an uninvited guest having a mid morning snack. Last year a late freeze burned all the apple buds thus we had no apples last year. This year, we have an abundance. This means that we will have fried apple pies to go with our home made ice cream! YUM! YUM! We don't mind sharing the apples with our "deer friends"! Like we could stop them if we didn't want to share!

Home Away From Home

I made it to Atlanta in no time at all. It was actually better that I was an hour late as they had to process Fluffy and Bing. Once I got there to the shipping warehouse, I presented my email and they said, "Ah, you're here for the kitties." I said yes I was. They asked if I had a broker to clear customs and I said well no I didn't. They said, yes we know that as they have not been cleared for release. So off to the customs office I went, documents in hand. I made it there in no time at all. The nice border control officer took my documents and asked, "How old are your cats?" I could have said something REALLY
smart but instead I said 5 and 10. He asked, "Years?" Again, i had to restrain myself. I said yes. He stamped my papers and cleared me to return to the pickup place. I got back and they said, "WHere's the man that went out before you? He was clearing a dog." I did not hold back and I said, "If it was a man, I am sure he is lost. They tend not to do directions very well." Everyone was rolling! Well, except the one officer at the very end who simply stood up and cleared his throat. We all looked at him and he said "OK. I'll give you girls that one." and he sat back down. The ladies finished my paper work, took $35.00 and showed me to the docking door. As I was leaving, in walked Mister and we all bursted out in laughter! I picked up the kittes and they were none too happy to see me! I placed the carriers in my car and let them out. Fluffy went straight to the back corner of the trunk and didn't budge the entire time! Bing on the other hand kept head butting everything in sight! He went to the bathroom and I crawled through the back seat and rubbed all over both kitties untill they were both purring very loudly. Then it was time to hit the road. Bing wandered back and forth every hour or two. He wanted to know where we were going and when were we going to get there!

We finally made it home and Bing was the first to go inside the house. I took him to the food bowl, water and then downstairs to the kitty litter box. I then went out and got Fluffy and went through the same routine with him. Then the fun began. Kitten does not care about having company. Bob on the other hand, is beside herself. She is keeping VERY close watch on the visitors! Fluffy and Bing made themselves right at home! They explored every room, every corner, and every counter top. Bing went into the master bath and the light was off but the bedroom light was on and he saw a shower ledge he could jump up onso he did. Little did he know that there was glass sitting on top of it so he hit his head bounced off and landed square in the middle of the bath tub! I was rolling! Fluffy, I do beleive, heard the call of the wild because he went straight to the window and watched. I think they all will be fast friends.

Getting Started

Kevin and I are working on the outside now that the inside is mostly complete. Our first endeavor was to get a swing from Lowes which Delmus paid for! Delmus LOVES to swing! So really, I thought the swing would be a place for Delmus to hang out and relax. Unfortunately, KITTEN had his own plan! He jumped right up onto the swing and kicked me right off!

The next thing we got underway was the flowerbed (Well, the main one that wraps the house to the right) and the sidewalk. We are hoping that they both get finished being built by Sunday so that I can plant all my wonderful flowers. Which I plan to dig up from Delmus' and steal! Shhhh Don't tell! Here is what we have done so far on the sidewalk.
